Wednesday 22nd April. Woke up to rain after a week and a half of beautiful blue skies! Did this stop us, no way! Left Revelstoke around 815am. The scenery between here and Banff was spectacular. We travelled along the highway 1 to Golden, in fairly heavy rain. A lot of the parks are still closed for the season but we went for a walk a long the skunk cabbage boardwalk anyway, well the boardwalk wasn't there but we still went for a walk anyway, lots of snow around on the ground everywhere but not the roads thank heavens. Went through Rogers Pass, rain, sleet and snow everywhere, even the travel stop was closed and the snow was piled up so high it was amazing, bit scary driving as everyone kept driving like it was a beautiful sunny day! The views are indescribable, snow capped mountains that seem to go on forever, majestic. Took so many photos, after each one I'd say no more that's enough and then around the bend you go and there is a different beautiful scene that just begs to be photographed so as I am one of the most obliging people I know, more photos were taken. Golden was a pretty little town and we called in to the information centre. We were trying to decide whether to continue on highway 1 straight o Banff or detour on to highway 95 to Radium Hot Springs. This delightful lady, who was there for her second day only,  very new, suggested we don't do the "boring" route and take 95. Glad we did. The weather cleared up, blue skies abounded and so did the snow capped mountains! We called in to the hot springs at Radium (great name, hope it doesn't live up to it and our hair starts falling out!). It wa really just a swimming pool with water and some people in. Turned off there on to highway 93 on the road to Banff. We stopped many times along this way as the scenery was just magnificent. There was this place called Harris Gorge, amazing. The river was winding along at the base of the snow capped mountains and was the colour of Aqua, just gorgeous. We came to a spot where British Columbia finished - the Kootenay National Park that we had just travelled through - and Alberta started with the Banff National Park. We also picked up and hour, there was a sign on the road to tell us to put our clocks forward an hour. So we are now only 16 hrs behind, not 17! Accommodation here in Banff is just great. Got in, went to hot tub and sat there for about 1/2 hour, very relaxing, swam in the pool, back in the hot tub and then back to room to get changed and head off to bar for a drink and dinner. Lovely lovely day. Off to explore Banff now.
