Friday 17th April. I LOVE Quebec City! What a beautiful, beautiful place. The old part of the city is just unbelievable, full of history and grand old buildings, cobblestone pathways, restaurants, cafes, just gorgeous. We started the day having breakfast around 8am and then headed off to the old part of Quebec. First saw Parliement House, what an amazing building (photo below). Then you pass through the the gates to the old part of town. There is what they call a citadel surrounding  the town, built about 1642 to defend Quebec, not sure who against didn't make the tour! The French govt gave them this spectacular fountain for being 400 years old but not sure when they turned 400, missed that tour also! There are these frescos on the side of buildings that are just the greatest artwork, they look so real. After exploring the town we walked up to the markets but bit disappointing, thought we could  get something to eat but it was more produce. So went across the road in disgust to a pub to drown our sorrows, had a chat to 2 local guys who lived in Australia in 1992 for 12 months, travelling around and working mainly West Australia. Went from there to hire bikes to ride 24 kms  along the river and back however when we started off it was blowing a gale and riding in to it was very hard work. Gary thought he was going to have A heart attack so we both decided to turn around, wind behind us this time. I really enjoyed it as I haven't been on a bike since 2000, but we were exhausted when we got back. Had to head back to motel for nanny nap! Later in afternoon explored the Battlefield Parks,- Plains  of Abraham. It is beautiful, they do all these winter sports there in winter as there is so much snow! They have these buildings called the Martello towers that they used to defend Quebec against whoever was invading them at the time, it overlooks the river and is so high up. Went to dinner and finally had pouting, yeah not worth waiting for! Gary had 22oz whisky bbq pork ribs, yum, yum, yum! Now getting ready to pack as we are off to the airport on the morning to fly to Montral and then Vancouver. Can't believe a week has gone already. Thinking of Frank and Belinda today and hope all goes well.

  2. Hey Trish and Gary, didn't realise Canada had such a long history, sounds great! The photos look great, still very very cold. Check the wind forecast next time you hire bicycles ( or get a tandum and one of you can get lazy on the back!??)
The wedding went well, the weather was good and the venue and food sensational. All feeling a little seedy this morning. Now we have a big drive home tomorrow.
Loving the blog and all the little bits of Canada information. Love Pam and vernon
