Saturday 25th April. What a wonderful day! Woke up to brilliant sunshine, rain and snow had been for acts but the Queenslanders came through again! We went down to the village to the information centre. The Parks lady told us 3 grizzly bears had been sited recently in the Lake Louise camping ground so best not to do one of the walks we had planned. Apparently they come down out of the high country in spring looking for food. Would have loved to have seen them - from the safety of the car of course! We ended up hiring some ice cleats and walking poles and took off to Fairview lookout. About 2.2 kms round trip, straight up and straight down but the lookout was worth it! It showed Lake Louise and the Fairmont brilliantly and we didn't slip once going up or coming down as the path was covered in snow. From there decided to do the Mirror Lake walk, about 5.2 kms all round and also straight up! Once we got there the lake was frozen solid and we contemplated heading off to Agnes Lake but the Parks lady and the rental guy both said that beyond Mirror Lake is high Avalanche area and not to chance it so we decided to head their advice. Once again. A beautiful walk, everything here is just so lovely. Went off then about 430 pm this was to Lake Louise Ski Resort. What a happening place - if you are a skier. They have about 3 lifts that we saw going up, the season doesn't end til mid May so heaps of people around. Mike, you would love this resort as would Isaac, they had beginner slopes, toboggan slopes and heaps of cafes and pubs. Lodge of the Ten Peaks it was called, I didn't count that many but I suppose I will just have to trust them, and the view from there was also just beautiful. Chose not to go up the gondolas or the lifts, still not over Sulpher Mtn trauma! When we got back from all our walks we went down to the spa, steam room and pool. Met a very interesting Chinese fellow who was born in China, educated in the States, married a German woman, he works from Saudi Arabia and their home is in Swizterland! Made us feel very boring. Good thing was, he looked about our age and his kids were only 3 and 5 mths old! Very nice man however and works in petro chemical, has been to Australia for work and liked Brisbane. Went to the change room after swim etc, AMAZING! The showers had shampoo, conditioner and bath gel. There was a machine that you put your togs in and it spun them dry. There was body lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, tampons, hair dryers, hair straighteners and mouthwash, it was amazing. I had. A great time pampering myself, thinking Gary had the same thing! Finally came out to find him waiting anxiously for me. There had been a weird guy in his change room so he left without exploring, poor soul! Amazing what little things please us, isn't it! Off to Jasper tomorrow but will be sorry to leave Lake Louise, we have had. A great time here and it is an amazing place.

Wow Treish and Gary. Those photos are amazing. We did the walk on the other side up to Agnes Lake and again the view is spectacular! It is incredible looking at it all covered in snow. No less beautiful though! As you say, it gets more spectacular everywhere you go! Love seeing it covered in snow - it actually snowed the morning we left Lake Louise! Have you seen any bears yet?
ReplyDeleteThe sleep out at Currumbin was amazing Trish! We had a few glasses of wine so that dulled the pain of sleeping on hard cement under the stars! It was such a clear starry night but nowhere near as cold as Karrajini, thank goodness! The dawn service was amazing - very emotional! It went for two hours but was so professionally done! Will do it again next year!!!
Loved Jasper! You will have to close your eyes again and do the skytram up Whistlers mountain. We were packed in like sardines and everyone stands up so you really can't see anything! Vernon would go to the outside and I stayed in the middle! But the view up the top is spectacular!! I did it so you will too!!!
Look forward to your blog each day. You are doing a fantastic job!!!
Love
Pam and Vernon xx
