Wednesday 13th May
Spent this morning cruising through Tracey Arm Fiord. The most amazing scenery, big mountains all the way to the water, snow covered, waterfalls on side of the mountains and some were so close you could almost touch them! It was so calm and serene, the water was like glass. We went up to the glacier, however the ship, then turned around in the most confined looking area, a very narrow channel! Beautiful!
Arrived in Juneau about 1145am. Our excursion today was traditional canoeing across Lake Medenhaul over to Nugget Falls. Exhausting! There was 10 of us and our guide was a young, very thin girl called Brittany! She was lovely. We paddled across the lake and up fairly close to the glacier, passing quite a few icebergs. Hard going as the water of the lake isn't very clear, it is full of glacier silt and it turns it a milky white! The falls were unbelievable, such power! Stopped on the beach and has salmon dip, reindeer sausage and hot apple cider. Yummy! Needed it after all that hard paddling! Met an Australian  couple from Perth, Mario and Vicki. After the canoeing we went with them to the Red Dog Saloon for a couple of drinks, a very enjoyable afternoon! Had 2 Glacier Margaritas and they had a guy singing country and western, he even sang "North to Alaska" for us. Great day! On the return to the ship, we stopped and patted Patsy Ann, a statue of a dog that was born deaf and used to know when the ships were coming in and would go the pier everyday to greet them. If you patted her statue, it meant good friendship. We met up with Mario and Vicki for dinner that evening.
